Thanks for visiting,
Gary Collins Creations is based in Fareham Hampshire. I create items from recycled wood destined either for landfill or to be burned for energy extraction. The wood is repurposed into usable material and it is then that I decide what to make.
I do not sell through the website due to fact that each piece will differ slightly depending on the species of wood used, however if you like what you see and are local I can come to you, just let me know the item number via e-mail or my mobile and I will bring it round or come and see me at the local events below.
All major credit and debit cards accepted.
I managed to locate this stunning piece of wood with a beautiful grain and wanted to create something simple to show it off. The decision was to make a 3 piece tea light set ideal for a dining table or mantle shelf over the fireplace, it consists of a 3 candle centrepiece and 2 singles either side. Tealights sit in a metal insert, the wood finish used was Rustin's plastic coat which is a 2 part process giving one of the hardest high gloss finishes available. Finally the underside has leather pads to protect furniture, a coat of wax and of course 1 of my stickers.
This solid hardwood set comprises a 3 candle centre piece and 2 singles, cut from a beautifully heavy length of recycled hardwood re-purposed on my band saw. Each piece is both machine and hand sanded for a smooth finish after the tea light recesses have been added, 3 coats of wax enhance the natural grain of the wood, leather pads and of course my sticker finish the base.
This Bear is not my own idea moreover it is my interpretation created for Rob Anthony, a former colleague at Harwood's Basingstoke, nothing is ever too much trouble for Rob he can even be found doing magic tricks in service reception if there are small children around, it gave me a lot of pleasure to do this piece for him.
Just before leaving Rob showed me a photo and asked if I could make one for him, this piece was the result.
Made with a solid hardwood base, softwood muzzle which was wrapped with leather and a leather nose and ears. The process started one morning with a sketch which gave way to some cardboard templates the shape was then formed on the bandsaw as was the muzzle followed by sanding and finishing, got to love this item!
This was one of my first creations after finding a source of wood resembling small decking planks, I literally threw together a planter to check the how it would look, it is still outside my front door as the wife decided to plant it up, see last photo.
The charcoal colour was because a good friend Dawn at work wanted one and it was duly made as was one for Nicola, other colours followed because all I could find for sale was brown stained wood....why.
These planters are made using recycled and re-purposed wood, each one is hand made, screwed, glued and treated with 2 coats of Ronseal protection. The insides are lined with black polythene and the base has a membrane to allow for drainage of excess water. Planter is approx 400 mm square by 325 mm in height. Currently available in charcoal, dark oak and red cedar but any colour can be made to order(surcharge may apply) FREE delivery to Fareham and surrounding areas.
Payment on delivery, most credit and debit cards accepted.
Be aware these planters are heavy when full, seek assistance and take care when moving.
Believe it or not this piece was inspired by another creator, who carved a piece of wood in to a curved organic form. It showed off the growth rings, which are irregular in size due to the fact that a tree will have good and bad growth years. I decided to make this item with differing depth layers and species of wood. The top layer is finished with burr Walnut veneer and the whole piece has three coats of Rustin's plastic coat (one of the hardest finishes available). As with all my tea light holders it has metal inserts for the candles, leather pads on the base and of course my sticker.
Going to try and do a clock in the same fashion with a skeleton movement in chrome next.
This Victorian style cast iron and wooden bench has been re-furbished using recycled bench ends and wood. The bench ends have been cleaned and finished with gloss black Hammerite paint. Recycled wooden slats are cut to size and the edges rounded over, they were then sanded and treated with 2 coats of Osmo poly oil. New bolts have been use to affix the slats which have a colour coded metal strap added for extra strength.
These bird tables are approx 1300mm tall, the heavy base was created to negate the need for the normal splayed leg and brace supports that everyone else uses. All the wood used is recycled, glued with Titebond 111 ultimate and finished with 3 coats of Ronseal protection.
The open design allows even the larger species to feed, not just the smaller species.
Free delivery to Fareham and surrounding areas.
Available in charcoal, red Cedar, natural oil and dark Oak.
Ok, so on the homepage it states that I make items out of recycled wood, clearly this is not entirely true for this piece. The frame is recycled hardwood but the rest is tanalised decking. Every so often you get commissioned to make a piece and you simply can not find the right material, so I had to buy it from a retail outlet which hurts.
Actually I had never heard of a mud kitchen until a few weeks ago; we were on a cruise and someone said that I should make them. On our return my wife googled them on the Monday and I had an order the very next day, kinda weird don't you think?
It's always good to make something different and I think the result looks great, if it gets kids outside playing in the open air it must be a good thing.
So what do you do with last years xmas tree other than send it to land fill or energy extraction. Maybe you let it light up xmas for years to come with these tea light holders, a simple yet beautiful addition to Christmas
I managed to find these turned pieces of wood and thought they would be perfect for displaying church candles around a fireplace. Solid brass saucers were fitted and 75mm wide candles finished the piece which is approx 490mm tall excluding the candle
Having had some really good comments on the laminated tea light holders the decision to expand the line was made and the clock was born. A beautiful skeleton movement finishes the Art Deco inspired piece with its angular form.
These versatile boards were designed to take a standard supermarket size baguette around 500mm in length. In use however I found that they were also a perfect size for the Italian and Spanish cured meats and cheese that we quite often enjoy with a glass of wine at the weekend.
The boards are roughly 650mm in length and 90mm wide and are made from a single piece of timber
These geometric pillar candle holders were made using 6 layers of alternating wood with a central stem.A solid brass candle saucer and 6cm candle finish the piece after several layers of Rustin's plastic coat were applied and finally a leather bottom to prevent scratching to furniture.
I have always liked the classic lines of the balloon clocks from the Edwardian and Victorian eras, so it was only a matter of time before I decided to create one.
More a labour of love really, lots of clamping in sections and cutting to shape followed by several days sanding and finally seven coats of finish was applied and of course the brass effect skeleton movement.
Last week I was offered some MDF by a local business, not a material I normally work with. My first thought was a blanket box but then I decided it was about time that my grandson had a toy box. this was the result.
Toy boxes are not painted inside but blanket boxes are, name plate is optional.
Sizes available are either 3ft or 4ft wide, depth 420mm and height is 480mm approx
